No new Lex and Lionel scenes together, Tess-Lex scene in Smallville finale

Monday, April 25th, 2011

TV Line has posted a scoop on the series finale about the wedding guests and the Luthors.

The truth is now out there: Lois and Clark will be heading for a wedding when the CW series’ grand finale airs May 13, and TV Guide Magazine has a first-look photo from the ceremony. I can now tell you that with the big day promising big drama, Clark should be content to know that not only will his mother, Martha (played by Annette O’Toole), be on hand for the ceremony, but so will dad Jonathan (John Schneider)  – talk about your very special guests! Speaking of curious finale reunions, I see that many fans are expecting the returning Lex to have at least one scene with his also-”resurrected” father, Lionel. Alas, a source tells me that although John Glover is in the series finale, he and Michael Rosenbaum in fact did not get to shoot any new scenes together.

Also, E! Online has posted something about the Tess and Lex scene in the finale.

ginnytwin: You were kind enough to provide Smallville spoilers last week, so how about some more?

Your wish, our command. Cassidy Freeman is super excited about her scene with Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) in the finale, and she thinks you should be too! “Their scene is epic,” she tells us giddily. “But I think even if we were just having tea and crumpets it would be epic, because we have never met before.”

Lionel Luthor Lives! Scoop on the Return of Smallville’s Big Bad Dad

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

Smallville’s dearly departed Lionel Luthor is back in action this week, and E! Online had the pleasure of chatting up his alter ego John Glover. Here are the highlights.

What was your reaction to finding out they wanted you back on the show?
It was a big surprise. When Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson called me and said, “Would you be interested in coming back?” I said, “How in the world could I do that? I must have been a pile of broken bones and organs all smooshed together—I got pushed out of a 30-story office window.” But they found this quite interesting way and the episode is a lot of fun.

What about the surprising new father-daughter dynamic between Tess (Cassidy Freeman) and Lionel?
When they told me that I had an illegitimate daughter who’s running the Daily Planet, I was shocked. But then I saw her and everything was fine, because Cassidy is swell. We had a great time working together.

Any chance alterna-Lionel is a big ol’ softie?
See, I believed in [the original Lionel]. I saw the love and the heart and the soul of that Lionel. He did such beautiful things for Lex; what other father, in a way to strengthen his son, would give his son shock treatment—twice! That’s because he loved him so much. It was only to make him strong, you see? [Laughs.]

Don’t miss “Luthor“, the start of John’s incredible four-episode arc, on Smallville this Friday at 8/7c on the CW.

First Look at Smallville episode Luthor

As Smallville races — faster than the proverbial speeding bullet — to its series finale in the spring, familiar faces continue to pop back into the world of Clark Kent (Tom Welling). Even dead people. Lionel Luthor (John Glover), pushed out of a building to his death by son Lex in Season 7, returns to the CW drama on December 3 for the first of four episodes. Then, on December 10, Michael Shanks makes his final appearance as Hawkman and Chloe (Allison Mack) returns, briefly. (She’ll be in four more episodes before the series ends.) “It is a great cliff-hanger going into the spring run, because there are a couple of pretty big twists in that episode,” says executive producer Brian Peterson. “Things don’t go very well for our heroes. Just when Clark is on top of the world, things kind of crash down around him.”

This, uh, “Ultraman” persona you’ve come up with — genius. It’s a great way to strong-arm our opponents. But your display of ego is attracting too much attention. You’re getting reckless. Now, button up! – Lionel

JOHN GLOVER RETURNS AS LIONEL LUTHOR; EXECUTIVE PRODUCER KELLY SOUDERS MAKES HER DIRECTORIAL DEBUT — Tess (Cassidy Freeman) acquires a Kryptonian box that once belonged to Lionel Luthor (John Glover). When Clark (Tom Welling) accidentally activates the box, he’s transported to a parallel universe where Lionel found Clark in the cornfields instead of the Kents. In this universe, Clark Luthor is a murderer and Lois (Erica Durance) is engaged to Oliver (Justin Hartley) and both of them hate Clark. Clark must be careful not to tip off Lionel that he’s not his son while trying to figure out how to get back to Earth where the monster Clark Luthor was transported in his place.

Lionel Luthor will come back to Smallville for multiple episodes!

Friday, August 20th, 2010

John Glover will reprise his role as Lionel Luthor in Smallville's 10th season

This may be the closest thing to a Michael Rosenbaum comeback we get, so enjoy it people: John Glover has signed on to reprise his role as Lex’s late pa, Lionel, for multiple episodes during Smallville‘s 10th and final season, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Glover last graced the Smallville canvas at the end of season 7 when Lex pushed his father out a window to his death. (He appeared briefly in season 8 via archival footage.) The actor is booked for at least two episodes, both of which are expected to air in November.

Glover joins a growing list of Smallville alums rejoining the show in its final season. That list includes John Schneider (Pa Kent), Laura Vandervoort (Supergirl), James Marsters (Brainiac), and Michael Shanks (Hawkman).

Thoughts? Theories as to how Lionel will be brought back from the dead? Still holding out hope for a father/son reunion before The End? Hit the comments!

John Glover to join the cast of ‘Heroes’

Monday, December 15th, 2008

To restore the super to Heroes, the show is going — but of course — to Smallville!

Sources confirm to me exclusively that the struggling NBC drama has tapped John Glover, a.k.a. Lex Luthor’s dad, Lionel, to play Sylar’s father.

“When Sylar meets his father, he’s going to see a path ahead of him that he doesn’t want to take,” reveals a Heroes insider. “He has a lot more in common with his father than he realized.”

The Tony award winner, who recently booked an arc on Brothers & Sisters as a love interest for Ron Rifkin’s Saul, will turn up towards the end of Heroes‘ forthcoming “Fugitives” chapter.
