The CW announced that five of their popular shows will be renewed for a further season, but “Smallville” was not one of them. “America’s Next Top Model”, ”Gossip Girl”, “Supernatural”, “The Vampire Diaries” and “90210″ will all return in fall 2010. However, this is what Kristin and Ausiello say about Smallville.
I’m told it’s very likely that Smallville will return for another season, given that it is pulling in solid ratings (by CW standards) – an average of about 2.5 million on Friday nights. So why no Smallville pickup today? According to insiders, it’s possible they are still finalizing deals with the actors and also want to announce Smallville‘s pickup separately, while also setting an end date, as it may be the final season.

There’s no word on the fate of CW bubble shows Smallville, One Tree Hill, Life Unexpected, and Melrose Place. Of the four, Smallville and One Tree Hill stand the best chance of returning, although I’m told there are big budgetary issues that need to be resolved first.
