iFMagazine – Comic Con News: (DAY 4 – July 26, 2009): YES, EVEN MORE BIG ‘SMALLVILLE’ SEASON NINE NEWS
Come and kneel before Zod! We have the low-down on the big baddie for season nine and a love triangle with Lois/Oliver/Clark
LOCATION: San Diego Comic Con
THE SKINNY: Coming our coverage of the SMALLVILLE press roundtable at Comic Con, Callum Blue gave us the low-down on his character of Major/General Zod in the upcoming ninth season.
Blue says that already in the production process he has said the classic line “Come and kneel before Zod” as it was said in SUPERMAN 2. However, Blue admits, “It’s not as cool as Terrence Stamp … yet.”
Blue says his costume at the moment is army fatigues and that he is akin to the leader of a fascist party. “When I become General Zod the costume will change,” he says.
So far already this season, Blue says, Zod has chopped off someone’s head and he will eventually have the powers of Superman but right now he’s trying to figure out why he doesn’t have them right now.
While this is the same Zod that took over Lex Luthor’s body a few season ago, it is a younger version than the one that was pulled out from the Phantom Zone.
Joining Major/General Zod in season nine of SMALLVILLE will be the other characters from SUPERMAN 2 including his future wife, Ursa, and the mute Non, although Blue says Non will talk in SMALLVILLE.
During the season will discover the history Zod has with Jor-El and that while Zod has no super powers before he came to Earth with his army, he promised he would have powers when they got there, Blue says.
Blue has signed on for two seasons of SMALLVILLE and says he will be in 16 of the 22 episodes this year. So plan on a Zod heavy season fans.
Meanwhile, Erica Durance is promising a bit of a love triangle involving Oliver Queen, Clark and Lois. “We will see just how much they depend on each other this season,” Durance says. We will also see that Queen is regretting the decision to end things with Lois.
Durance jokes that when she goes on set she says “Get ready to be smitten boys.”
Wow! Now, there is indeed something to look forward to.
