Smallville Season 8 Blu-ray New Slip case

TVShowsonDVD - Yesterday we let you know that the package art had apparently changed for Smallville – The Complete 8th Season, coming to DVD and Blu-ray Disc on August 25th. The pre-order listing at Amazon.com was showing a different box design, but only for the Blu-ray version. And we were able to get that same image, from another angle, from the studio’s press site. But why the change for Blu-ray, and not for the DVD version? We had asked our studio contacts about it, but they hadn’t been able to reply to us right away.

Today, however, we’ve gotten our answers! The studio informs us that the original artwork (of Clark and Lois shown inside the offices of The Daily Planet) was the correct artwork for general retail release. What had been briefly posted at Amazon, and has now been fixed (thanks to our catch), is artwork that will be meant to be exclusively available at one retailer (not Amazon; possibly it is Best Buy). Whenever the retailer in question advertises it, that will be available on the standard DVD release as well as the high-def Blu-ray version.

Do you want this slip case available with the regular DVD too?

  1. [...] Blu-ray disc in new slip case | Smallville PH | Tom Welling … [...]

  2. Just a head’s up: the blu-ray version also comes with the original Daily Planet artwork slipcase and this Skyline artwork on the insert. I just got my early review copy in and it has the slipcase with the original DP art. Apparently, the alternate Skyline cover will be available at certain retailers, but I don’t know which ones.
