‘Infamous’ Review: Lana Who?

Tonight’s new episode felt like a completely different show than it did the last time it was on. And I cannot decide if that is really the case or the fact that my heart was just not in it. It was like there was something missing and I had this ache that would not go away. Wonder what that could be? The fact that someone who Clark supposedly loves was barely even mentioned and when she was it was so fast if you didn’t listen really close, you missed it; I thought this was in poor taste but it is nothing less than I expect. Look at the way they had Lois pass over the death of Grant Gabriel. It was like minute she’s upset, the next in bed with Oliver. Okay, so Clark did not sleep with anyone but he moved on pretty quick. But I digress and step off of my soap box to get on with the review of the waste of an episode.

Linda Lake returned. Why? Was it really necessary? She has been oozing around all of Metropolis trying to get the latest story since her credibility has been shot to hell. And what does she find; the red and blue blur of course. She stands around watching Clark as Lois fusses at him for not showing up at the airport. Course she throws in how she knows that she is not very high on his priority list. Got an issue, here’s a tissue. STOP WHINING!! Linda makes herself known once Lois is inside the Daily Planet. She tells Clark she knows everything and if he does not help her get the scoop and make the front page, she will tell the world everything about him. Uh oh!

Clark Kent is out

The secret is out. The world loves Clark Kent.

Uh oh is right! Clark talks with Chloe and decides that he needs to come clean and tell his secret so he does not have to cow down to Linda. Did anyone else see a huge problem with this? Chloe was apprehensive but Clark was excited about being able to just be himself. And off to the Planet he goes to tell Lois. At first she doesn’t believe it until he lifts her and a desk off the floor. He tells it all and gives her a front page exclusive. Are you seeing a problem arising here? He sure told Lois awful quick. I kept thinking they are doing some major screwing with the mythology and why is this even a possibility. Are they going to fix this?

Well, the story is out. The world seems to love and accept Clark. Linda is ticked off that he let Lois out scoop her and vengeance will be hers. Remember that word: vengeance! We cannot go by without mentioning Davis Bloom. Seems he is taking schizophrenic drugs from Metropolis General. He is trying to keep the evil inside. He meets Chloe at the hospital where she had Jimmy transferred. She wants to talk about the kiss and just letting it go but Davis says that he can’t let it go. A nurse asks Davis what it was like to know someone who was friends with the Kryptonian once Chloe walked off. Another oops about Clark’s secret being outted, Doomsday now knows who you are.

It was like a trickle down effect. Clark had people throwing themselves off fire escapes so he could catch them; he could not help them because they were always around snapping pictures, wanting autographs. Martha is being thrown out of the Senate because of Clark. Then Chloe was being hounded for being the best friend of the alien and could not get people to take care of Jimmy in the hospital because there were so many people snapping photos of the husband of the best friend of an alien. Then Davis aka Doomsday knows that Clark is his Kryptonian enemy. Then it hits the fan: Linda fights back! She first has a woman come forward whose husband had been killed by a crane and wanted to know why Clark gets to pick and chose who he saves. Linda also came forward and said Clark was only the first wave of a full on alien invasion and he left a wake of carnage everywhere he went supposedly saving people. If that was not good enough, she went so far as to say that he had killed Lex Luthor, the real savior of the people because he was trying to rid the world of Clark.

So, the flow begins. The press turns on Clark. He turns himself over to the FBI so that he can answer their questions. Only they really don’t believe him and they want to talk to both Chloe and Lois. They open fire on Clark in his home and he takes off. He finds Chloe and tells her to get out before they catch her too. She goes by the Isis foundation and Davis is changing into Doomsday. He tells her that she was at the Fortress and told him he was sent to Earth to kill the Kryptonian, to kill Clark. She tells him to stay away from him and he begins to change. Davis tells her to run. Chloe calls Lois because Clark doesn’t answer his phone.

By now, Clark has decided to use the Legions ring to go back and stop Linda from writing the original article. Lois had been attacked by the FBI which Clark saves her from them and they have a discussion how she thinks he should stay and fight and that he is special and Lois knows once he goes back in time he won’t tell her the secret because she is not special but he tells her that is exactly why he can’t tell her because she is. But they don’t get a chance just yet because Linda attacks. She takes the ring and is going to use it til Lois kicks her butt and Clark gets the ring. Just as Lois is about to warn Clark about Davis being Doomsday, he puts on the ring and goes back two days.

He rushes to Linda’s office and stops her from writing the story. He uses electricity to keep her in a solid state, it is the only way. So, time is erased. Lois doesn’t know. Clark picked her up at the airport and they sort of discuss their almost kiss at the wedding to which Clark says it is a very complicated subject. She tells him that she will be at the coffee shop if he wants to come or not. Davis is at the hospital again and is told he has a visitor. Not only has Linda been watching Clark but Davis as well. She tells him she knows who he is and why doesn’t he change into his inner monster and get her out of her shackles. Only when he does sort of let loose his demon, Davis kills her. As for Lois and Clark’s almost date, he sends her a message saying he is hung up at work to which she replies she wasn’t there either because she was chasing a lead. Only she was there and he was across the street behind her, looking at her.

I thought this was a waste of an episode. Maybe it is because I hate when they do one and they go back and say it’s a dream, we went back in time, etc. It is like they run out of anything good to write an episode about and this is what they come up with. Why waste the talents of Tom, Allison, Erica and all the others on things like this. Yes, I suppose Clark did need to see what it would have been like if he told the world his secret but seriously, why? And why not mention Lana at all? She could have been partially mentioned for the simple fact that Clark is supposed to be madly in love with her. He passed her over. Like those 8 years was nothing. Before the hate mail arrives, I know Clark ends up with Lois in the end. But sorry, I don’t like that version of the story. Let me live in my own little world. As far as the rest of this season, and help me God, the next one, I have no expectations. I will see what happens and make a decision then and try not to be too cynical. But I am making no promises.

NEXT WEEK: Escape from a crashing plane with Tess! STAY TUNED!!

I agree with you totally!! I am a Clark/Lana fan 100% and I don’t agree with the way they just totally ignored their love. I mean on the last episode..he was on the floor just sick and heartbroken and now nothing.. And I am sorry.. but I cannot take this whole maybe, maybe not, can’t tell her because I am protecting her storyline again… Been there and done that with Lana and I dont really want to see it again with Lois. In my opinion..they just need to focus on Clark moving forward to his destiny and leave love out of it.. As much as I love Smallville… I think they need to end the series this season because if not, next season will be the “same old same old”… Love, maybe not, go back in time, Clark can’t be honest about his feelings…etc… I can’t go through this again!!!!!

Hello. I am happy that Lana is gone! Hoping she won’t come back. I think Lois and Clark deserve a chance if not totally this 8 season perhaps season 9 and praying writers will listen to us. This season is much more of a CHLOE-CENTRIC than what i have expected as a CLOIS fan…but I am sure thankful that SOMEHOW WRITERS HAVE GIVEN US BITS AND PICES MENAING MOMENTS OF CLOIS. I’m a bit disappointed with Infamous becasue IT SEEMS TO ME THAT Lois’and Clark’s feelings are not put to its proper place-it’s time to DEAL WITH THEM I THINK, and more of Clark longing for Lois please…

Happy Lana is gone and won’t be seen in the remaining episodes and even on Season 9. :) Cheers!

Wow. I’m impressed. You are a true Smallville fan. Most viewers are just waiting for Clark to turn into Superman. They criticize anything contridicting the Superman schemes and plots that they expect and anticipate. I did not start watching Smallville because I was a Superman fan. I watch Smallville for Smallville. So since season 1, I have been waiting for the day when Clark and Lana could actually work. I’ve been waiting and hoping for a time when the world would stop pushing them apart because I belive that Clark and Lana have true love. There will never be a time when they stop loving each other although the world continues to shove. So I am also amazed that Clark could be “over” Lana so quickly. After all those years, all that time. And he was the one who said he didn’t want her to leave even though they couldn’t be together. I’m hoping that the reason he didn’t want to have coffee with Lois had something to do with Lana deep down, even though it appears to be his secret and her safety that he was really worried about. I am not adjusting well to Lois either because Lois and Clark are a Superman thing. In Smallville, Clark will always belong to Lana.

The biggest problem of this show is INCONSISTENCY!just like Kristin said! The clois`s story is just all the REPETITION of the epic CLANA`,with less amount of chemistry.ED is good at comedy/sugar coated scenes, but not so much at the drama/intense scenes like most KK`s scenes, she was the best at the emotional(kristin that is,not erica) !plus clois=brother and sister.

wasn’t planning to watch this episode, but I did.

As much as I am a Clana/Lana fan, I really think it would’ve been better had the last 5 episodes (the Lana episodes) either not happened or was placed somewhere else chronologically. End of Season 7 would’ve been better.

By inserting the Lana episodes smack dab in the middle of Season 8, they set themselves up for a lose-lose situation. Their options now were:
    1) Be consistent to the past 7 seasons & believable by showing Clark mourn for Lana as he would have (as he obviously was still very much in love with her in “Requiem’) OR

    2) Pretend like the last 5 episode never happened and move the show forward. Ppl were getting annoyed with ‘whiny Clark’.

I’m not surprised they chose the latter. Out of the 2, it was the better choice in terms of the show’s direction. I just really wished they gave more thought to the placement of Lana’s 5 episodes.

I am a huge fan of the show, but I truly believe that they should of finished off the whole Lana/Clark stroy line back in season 7. Having her come back into the show in it’s 10th episode through to the 14th episode was a waste of time. Infamous truly feels like the 11th episode in season 8. It’s time to move on. Clark is now working at the daily planet and is now truly imbracing his destiny. Lana needs to be left in the past. ever since episode one of this season it has been the Lois/Clark story and they tried to interupt it with Lana again. Move on already.

    I agree with Rachel

Just let Lois die already. I cannot stand that one dimensional cookie cutter character. Smallville is about Clark and Lana. Lois is so 20th century already. She had her chance last century, it didnt work. Lana and Clark forever.
