As I sit here on the couch with my husband, my own version of Clark Kent, I can feel my heart ripping from my chest. I am still in shock as my body is wracked with uncontrollable sobs. Lana will no longer be a part of Clark Kent’s life. Clana will only live as a memory.
I am overly upset that they have written Lana Lang out of the series. She was as much a part of his life as Lois Lane. Actually she was the first love of Clark’s young life. And now she is gone.
It was a beautiful send off. Clark and Lana were together and in the end, it was an ultimate sacrifice on both of their parts. Lana realized that she was able to absorb Kryptonite. What Lana does is suck all of it from the bomb that Lex had the Toyman plant. But it was so much that Clark will never be able to be around Lana ever again. They met for the final time at the loft, their place. She told Clark that she was going to have to leave and he begged her not to go. Clark wanted her in his life whether they could be together or not. Lana said that she could not stand to see him on the street and not be able to touch him. She said she would always love him no matter what and they would still be working for the greater good even though they would have to work apart. Clark still did not want her to go. He walked closer to her with Lana sobbing the whole time and Clark visibly in agony. But he crossed the barn and kissed her with all the passion he could muster and it almost killed him. Lana turned to go and told him that like that time when she introduced him to her parents and he told Lana her mom would always be with her, Lana said they would always be in each other’s hearts and that she would always be with him. Lana said “I will always love you, Clark” and then she was gone. We are left with a devastated Clark whispering “I love you, too.”
What meant a lot to me is that they tied the first time we had Clana in episode 1 season 1 with the very last one. They talked about her necklace and she started wearing it again and finally she mentioned the graveyard scene which was truly our first ever real Clana scene. Kristin Kreuk had the best send off of all the others who are no longer there. Annette, John S., John G., and Michael cannot compare to what they did for Lana. It has always been about her sacrifice for the greater good. It might hurt but it is for all humanity.
What bothered me was how Oliver Queen ‘killed’ Lex. Now I don’t think he is actually dead but it is simply the fact that he would even do such a thing. If he is supposed to be this hero, do heroes really do that kind of thing? Do they take on the vigilante role? I know he is human but I can’t imagine him actually doing that. And now Chloe has to keep that secret from now on. I always knew that Lex was never going to stop until he had robbed Clark of his true source of happiness. But it did not give Oliver the right to kill him, Clark wouldn’t have.
Lana Lang, the girl next door, the love of Clark’s life, his soul mate, his equal in every way, gone. It hurts to say it and it hurts to think about it. I can be honest and tell you that part of me would like to stop watching because Clana is one of the biggest reasons that I started watching the show. But I guess the bigger part would be the love of Superman and of course Tom Welling. But how will the show be now that Lana is gone? Will she still be mentioned? How does he move on? You’d almost think he would be killing himself to find a cure. I don’t know but I guess I will wait around and see.
I have to say thank you again to Kristin for doing justice to Lana Lang. Kristin, you gave her heart, soul, and life. You and Tom made us believe that true love exists and it is there if you look hard enough. You both made us believe that it is worth the wait and worth the sacrifice to keep it. I am speaking for all Clana lovers when I say you will be missed and we will always love you both. Good luck to you, Kristin in whatever you do with your life!
FYI: Since we have a month hiatus from Smallville, you might want to go see Kristin in Street Fighter: the Legend of Chun-Li on February 27th. Or maybe you could read the Twilight series. I highly recommend it. If you love Clana, you will identify with Edward and Bella. Whatever you decided to do, enjoy yourself! Laters!
