There are some that have found this whole Traveler and VERITAS plot new and exciting. They think that this is getting to be more of what Smallville is supposed to be about. Then there are others who don’t like it at all, who think it is completely stupid and have no idea where this is going or why. You may ask where would I fall in either of these two categories and I will tell you plainly that I really don’t know. I wouldn’t say I hated it because Tom Welling is in it and I can’t hate anything he has a part of. But I can’t actually say that I love it because it really makes no real sense. I want to see the big picture and see where this is going and then maybe I could draw a better conclusion.
I do want to know when things started to get away from showing Clark on screen. Oh the story is still about him but Tom has little screen time. Last week he had more but this time it was Lex, Chloe, and Jimmy most of the time. And when did Smallville start to be so bloody and violent? Is it necessary to show so much gore? Did we have to see both Tom and Michael’s chest carved into from belly to chin? And the gun fights? Always shooting people here and there. Just not necessary
And where do these ideas come from? After 7 years we find that there is a reason for the castle to have been moved from Ireland. No, it was not because Lionel could it had something to do with the whole VERITAS thing. There was something in the castle that Lionel had been searching for. And he never found it. Mainly because he needed a piece from a clock at Saint Christopher’s church. Seems Edward Teague is not dead after all. No he has devoted his life to Clark aka the Traveler and he was told that if anyone ever gained access to be able to control him, a member of VERITAS was to destroy him. Why would Jor-el have really sent a way to kill his own son you may ask? Because he would not have been able to do so himself. If Clark could be controlled, he would be able to destroy the world. Needless to say Chloe and Jimmy figure it out and seems that the figure with thought was the Traveler all these years in the Kewatchie caves is actually a human sacrifice. If you kill the bad guy you must also kill the good guy so there is a balance in the universe. I want to know how close Metropolis is to Montreal because Chloe sure did get there awful fast. And why we are on said subject, how was she able to break that rock basin with just a few blows? When did she get super strength? Must have missed that somewhere.
Back to the story: Lex gains a piece of the puzzle after placing the artifact he got for Zurich in the clock in the church in Montreal. He realizes that Lionel had the castle shipped over so he could search it. But he never found it. But Lex did. It is a sphere that shows a location of where the Traveler can be found on Earth. Sort of like a beacon. So, Lex knows where the real Fortress of Solitude is. Kind of messed up if you ask me. And I still don’t get how you ever have anything that can control Clark. That doesn’t make much sense.
Neither does Jimmy going back and doing research on the caves. Is that not been done and done and redone? It is old and tired. We know Clark is Neman and we know Lex is Segeth but now Jimmy has a new picture. Well not really but more like a new take on it. They must battle one another for there to be balance with in the world. One must come out victorious. Chloe informs Clark of this and of course during this whole thing he is saying that all this is his fault and it is just a rehash all the time. GET OVER YOURSELF. These people made their own choices. Did you learn nothing from last week’s episode, Clark? People would still be making these stupid choices whether you were here or not. He doesn’t want to kill Lex but for there to be order he may have no choice.
I will tell you that Tom had his shirt basically off, cut down the middle, and that made complete and utter sense to me! Whether there was blood on it or not and he had these gross carvings in him, it was still shirtless and that spoke volumes to me and any other person who lust after his perfect chest! Wait! What was I talking about again? Oh yeah, the episode!
I guess next week we will see the complete story of the whole Traveler, VERITAS thing. The end of a plot that came out of nowhere. It is odd how we are supposed to buy into the fact that the VERITAS logo had been in the stain glass behind Lex’s desk all these years. Nope. I watch this show very closely. It only recently showed up. Is there a point to all this? I hope so. Seven years is a long time to wait for a meaning to it all.
Something else happens next week as well: it marks the end of one of Smallville main 3. Michael Rosenbaum will be leaving Smallville. No more Lex. Kind of sad I think. Can’t imagine there not being any Rosy. But it has been hard to face no Kristin since VERITAS either. But sometimes you have to move on. Makes me wonder if the same thing should not have been happening to this show. John Glover, Michael Rosenbaum, Al Gough, Miles Millar and Kristin Kruek (she might as well be) have all left. Maybe it is time for Clark to head to the Fortress and we say good bye to Smallville. Or is it just me?
