Here lies a man that one son forgot and one will never forget him. Lionel Luthor, billionaire business man, has died. His body was found bloody and broken on the ground in front of LuthorCorp Tower. He was buried alone with only two men attending his funeral, the son who will forget him and the one who remember.
I want to know something. I fully realize that Lex will be bad and that he should have already been going toward that sort of behavior. But did they have to do it all in one night? And not just one night, but in a span of about 5 to 10 minutes? He just went completely ruthlessly evil. Killing his father with little or no effort and he watched him fall all the way down with a sickening splat. Then goes outside and plays the grieving son. Bravo, Lex! Bravo! An Oscar worthy performance! But Clark didn’t buy it. You could tell by the look on his face that he knew already Lex was behind this. And he was right. If Lex was so careful to hide in the shadows to surprise Lionel in his office, you’d have thought he realized that there could have been cameras pointed at Lionel’s office. Good work, Jimmy!
But this is Smallville. Proof last as long as ice cream on a sidewalk in 100 degree heat on a summer day. His gal, let’s keep calling her Mercy even though it’s Jenny, went to the Planet and destroyed the picture Jimmy had. He had the foresight to send it to the Isis foundation because Lana’s computer would be able to pull the pic of who actually killed Lionel out of the picture of Lois with Lionel going out the window. Of course, someone had to get shot and that someone was Lois. She then got locked in the cooler with Jimmy. You know his brother is the Ice Man on X-men. He should been able to call him or something. And my question is why did neither of them have a cell phone between them? DUMB!! When have you ever seen Lois or Jimmy go without their cell before?
Mercy goes to Isis where Chloe has solved the mystery of Lionel’s killer and sees Lex on the screen and is immediately knocked out, picture destroyed. Enter Clark. Why did neither he nor Chloe think that the person who hit Chloe might still be in the room? She heard every word they were saying. Like how the two keys opened a box that contained information that could control Clark and how Clark x-rayed the whole mansion for the key and then he zipped off. Not bright, not bright at all! But it didn’t really matter because after she left her message to Lex that she had found what he had been looking for, she was killed. Can you say convenient? You could tell by the look on Lex’s face that he planned on killing her. She knew too much and she should have never told him that she figured out he was the one who killed Lionel. DUMB!!!
Lex ended up killing 3 people. He murdered his child within. All episode said child tried to reason with him. I felt like I was watching Star Wars! ‘There’s still good in you. I know it. Don’t give into the dark side.’ It might have well been Luke talking to Darth Vader. Well, the dark lord won. Lex threw his inner child into the fire because he was making Lex weak. MUHAHAHA!! Kind of gross and sadistic if you ask me.
Clark and Lex had a tangle. Lex blamed him for Jonathon’s death, saying Jonathon always looked stressed and could said stress of raising Clark weakened his heart. This infuriated Clark who told him that he would be held responsible for Lionel’s death because he had proof, only he doesn’t now. They talked about how they had tried to be the others friend and how they had betrayed or lied to the other. Clark keeping things from Lex and Lex’s search for power. Lex told him that both of their fathers thought of him as the better son and that after all Lex had done to try and mend the fence with Lionel he runs to Clark in the end. Why would a billionaire want to confide in a simple farm boy? Clark said because he could be trusted.
Chloe was a royal dunce. She had the other key. Lionel had left it in her desk. She had the brains to destroy the paper it had been in before Lex got to her but not enough to hide the dang key! She left it right in her desk for Lex to open and take. And he did just that! Then he fired her! DUMB!!!
Clark in the end took the blame for Jor-el’s, Jonathon’s, and Lionel’s death. Chloe told him that all these men had given their lives to protect them all and that he needed to get the key from Lex before he killed anyone else. Clark made the promise that he would. He went to the funeral that was closed to everyone and he stood at the grave and stared at Lex. Lex smirked and walked right on by him. Clark dropped earth into the open hole, thus burying a second father in one lifetime.
I was glad that Clark mentioned Lana even though she was not in the episode. At least he did not pass her over as Lois did when Grant died. He was visibly upset at the beginning of the episode as he tried to get Chloe to do research into where Brainiac was so he could free her from the hell she is suffering at Brainiac hands. I know Kristin is off filming but what they did to Lana is awful. A lot of the things they had Chloe do, Lana could have done. Like the speech to Clark how Lex killed his father because of the absence of love being the definition of pure evil or how about the work at the Isis foundation? That is Lana’s to begin with. Lord, don’t let me get started on this because not everyone is a Lana lover but you have to admit this is pretty crappy!
I think this is setting Clark up now to become more of who he is supposed to be. At least that is what I hope they are doing. These days I don’t know. I do know that it feels like they are all on set but not working as a cohesive unit. It is more like they have to be here thing so let’s work. There is not a ton of interaction between any of them. Lex to Clark, Clark to Chloe, Lois to Chloe, Lois to Clark, etc. I mean this is the most Lex and Clark has said to each other in forever. I still love Smallville but I have to wonder is everyone just tired of it. Are there running out of ideas? What are they thinking? I was saddened by Lionel Luthor’s death. Was it necessary? Was it time? Was it past time? I don’t know and I don’t think they do either. Will I continue to watch? Is Tom Welling still Clark Kent? I think you know the answer.
