Pete Ross made his way back to Smallville and he doesn’t do things the easy way. He comes back in a major way with his own powers. But he doesn’t necessarily go about things the right way. Anytime there is Kryptonite brings out hidden feelings and untold power. Most people do not use any kind of restraint and Pete follows suit.
Where has Pete been? He has been a roadie and had been blaming Clark for the way his life has turned out. He said that since he knew Clark’s secret he had been looking over his shoulder the entire time he had been away. This is your best friend. Why blame him for your problems? No one else who knows Clark’s secret acts the way Pete was. But, he had a reason. It seems that Pete had picked up a pack of Stride gum that was made from Kryptonite and now he has a power. Jimmy called him Elastic Man and immediately Pete used his powers to pull Kara out of danger. With the power of the green rock flowing through his veins, Pete wants the world to know what he can do. He wants to be front page news and he thinks Clark needs to step up as a hero and come clean with it all. Stop hiding and be the hero the world needs.
Unfortunately when Pete is under the influence of Kryptonite he is a real jerk. He was one to Chloe and especially Clark. What got his goat the most was that Lionel Luthor knew Clark’s secret and so did Lana and Chloe. Clark tries to explain it to him but he sort of blows him off. Clark wants to help him get rid of his power and Pete wants to keep it. Nothing good can come from a meteor enhanced Pete.
Jimmy wants Chloe to write a front page story on this new hero. Pete wants her to do it. Lex has made copies of all her files and when she storms his office, he tells her he owns the Planet and all things in it and if she doesn’t like it, go to the Inquisitor. She tells Pete and he goes to the office and puts a virus in the Planet computers. Lex catches him and tells him he either goes to Lionel’s office and takes the bracelet that belongs to Kara or he will tell the world that Chloe is a meteor freak. Jimmy was in the shadows and over hears this. Pete takes off for Lionel’s place and Jimmy tells Chloe and Clark about Pete going to get the bracelet. They figure Pete was the one who uploaded the virus so Lex would not have her information. Clark takes off for Lionel’s and Pete had just grabbed Kara’s belongings. Clark tells him that this was not the way to be a hero and Pete tells him he had to do what he had to do. With that he whipped out a piece of kryptonite and left Clark in major pain. But not before telling him that he was about to save him and everyone else by taking Lex out of the equation.
Back at the Stride plant, Pete meets up with Lex and he would have killed him if Lex had not brought his own goon to the party. Too bad Clark had destroyed all the gum in the plant. Lex is about to break Pete’s arms off because he refuses to tell him where the bracelet is. As the goon is about to do the deed, Clark zooms and throws said goon across the room and knocks Lex off his feet and out cold. That was awesome. Pete apologized and thanks him for saving him. He said part of knowing Clark’s secret was he was there to save you when you needed him.
Pete makes up with Clark and told him he thought it was easier to blame Clark with what was wrong with his life and that he was glad he knew the truth. And they made up and were buddies. He also apologized to Chloe and they made amends, which sort of made Jimmy jealous. But in the end he and Chloe were going to have quite a discussion over coffee.
There was another twist to the story. Kara still does not know who she is and after talking to Lionel and Lana, Clark decides to protect her by not telling her who she is. He also learns from Lionel that Kara is frequenting Lex’s mansion and that her bracelet is missing and that said thing could probably restore her memory in full. Lionel suggested taking her to the fortress and Clark said the last time he went, Jor-El froze him there. As a matter of fact Kara was over at Lex’s and he was showing pictures of Kryptonian symbols and tells her that was what was on her bracelet. She told Lex she felt like Clark was hiding something from her and that she did not fit in. Lex tells her that she is always welcomed in his home.
Kara is caught rummaging through Clark’s trunk and Lana is the one who catches her. Kara shows Lana the symbols and Lana tells her they are from the cave and makes up a story about her bracelet. Kara tells Lana it amazes her how she and Clark can lie on cue. She asks Kara how she knew about Lana’s tattoo after she is questioned about it and where she got all the information. Kara tells her it was from Lex. Lana tells her not to trust him; that he comes in like the hero but in the end you find that it is all a bunch of lies. Kara later tells Lex that she can’t trust Lana or Clark anymore and asks if she can move in with him. We see Lex smile and close the door. It wasn’t enough to have sex with the woman Clark loved but now he wants his cousin too. Evil man.
A glimpse into an evil Lionel was given as well. Lionel had the bracelet in his safe and when he comes and frees Clark from the Kryptonite. Clark tells Lionel that he had been lying and that would need to talk. There is also something about the crest on the window behind Lex’s desk. It had a constellation on it and it had last aligned during the first meteor shower. There was something else but Kara showed up. What could it be and what does it mean for Smallville?
It was nice to see Pete back on Smallville again, but I was not happy how he went right back to being a butt after getting Kryptonite. But as usual, he redeemed himself in the end. Chloe had some cool one liner like asking Pete if he was the Barry Bond’s Pete or the Hank Aaron Pete. I liked how they brought Jimmy and Chloe back together. And the smooch between Lana and Clark was sweet too. I’m not so sure about the Lex/Kara thing. It’s a little weird but the next few episodes are supposed to rock the frame of Smallville as we know it. I myself am looking forward to more new episodes in the weeks to come and to see what are resident hero will do next.
