Black Canary has arrived in Metropolis but she did not arrive on the right side. Well, she thought she was. Lex has a way of doing that to you. But she had a meeting with the man in green and our resident Boy Scout and her eyes were open. Is she an asset to our League or is this a problem? You decide.
Chloe has been working as a sidekick for the Green Arrow intercepting plans from Lex. But they are stopped by a woman in black fish nets and a black mask with really sharp knives. She has this ability to make lots of noise without really making any. In other words, she is subsonic. Once the plans were taken, our vigilante takes them back to Lex where she is paid a hefty sum of money. But he isn’t done. When he hears the Green Arrow was there, now he wants her to bring him the Arrow. Seems she has been told that the Emerald Archer and his gang of merry men have been blowing up his factories that are supposedly making car parts. Yeah right! Why didn’t she do some research if she is so interested in justice before she started working for Lex?
Lois and Dinah Lance don’t see eye to eye. Lois thinks that she is a right wing nut who is the supposed voice of justice and Dinah thinks Lois is shrill and opinionated. Dinah was the one to tell Lois that Oliver was back in town. Lois goes and sees Oliver and gives him a nice smack across the face. Of course, he was shirtless and she had a hard time concentrating. In the end they wind up smooching right before the women in black shows up and break all the glass. Ollie is out and just before she knocks Lois out, Lois finds out the Ollie is the Green Arrow. When the two of them come to, they are tied back to back and start arguing over why he didn’t tell her who he really was. She knocks Lois out and asks him does she ever shut up. Ollie tries to reason with her. He tries to tell her that maybe she is on the wrong side of the equation. But she won’t listen.
About the same time, Clark and Chloe start trying to figure out who attacked she and Ollie. The only other person to sign onto the internet at the Planet was Dinah Lance. Clark said she was a brunette but Chloe worked her magic and behold. Dinah Lance is our fish net loving acrobat. Chloe calls her the Raven Canary and Clark says he thinks the Black Canary is better. They intercept a money transaction from Lex to Canary. This sends her looking for Lex. But who she finds is Clark. He tries to tell her as well about what sort of man Lex is. She uses her vocal powers and makes Clark’s ears bleed. Why? It wasn’t magic and she isn’t powered by Kryptonite. What gives?
She goes to see Lex and they get in a cool fight where Ollie has to come in and save her. But after Lex and Ollie fight, Lex pulls out a gun and Ollie shoots an arrow at Lex, Canary throws a knife at Lex and Lex has two guns which he shoots at both of them. Clark arrives and he stops the arrow and the bullet to Ollie. He sees a bullet heading for Canary and the knife to Lex. Clark sees that the knife will not kill Lex but he saves Canary. I think that was Clark’s way of maybe getting back at him a little. In the end, Ollie and Clark meet Canary and she is asked to join the League. After she agrees she asks Clark who says maybe someday. As they leave Clark hear Dinah tell Ollie that he had bad choice in women.
There were other things going on. One is Ollie and Clark gets into it because Chloe was put in danger. Ollie tells Clark that Chloe is in danger every other day when she is Clark’s sidekick. Clark tells him that he is being selfish and putting everyone else in danger for his cause. Ollie snaps back and tells him that at least they are out risking their lives for justice rather than playing domestic sitting on the couch. Ollie tells him that you sometimes have to give up the one you love the most to fight for what’s right. Foreshadowing I am assuming.
Also, Ollie and Lois have another moment. Ollie wants badly for this to work but Lois tells him that she can’t live with his whole duel identity and she doesn’t think that she can share him with everyone else. Clark comes to the Talon to see how Lois is. She tells him that she had to deal with her father always being gone and she didn’t want to be left behind again. She cries on Clark’s shoulder and tells him why a billion have when she could always hang out with him. Cute.
Now to my part of the episode, Clark and Lana. In the beginning they can’t even look at one another. Then he goes to her for help to find the Black Canary. She tells him about the fact that he was the second person to ask her for help in looking to see if Lex had anything about Dinah Lance. She tells him no and before he goes she tells him about the woman who died while she was watching her after Brainiac had gotten into her. She said they were trying to see if there were any clues in her. Clark gets angry when he sees that she had told the Phantom this. He wanted to know why tell him this now and she said it was because Lionel was holding it over her head. Clark said the only time that she feels like she can tell him anything if she in trouble. She tells Clark that he has no idea how hard it is knowing that every day you’re going to fail about being the person that the one you love the most wants you to be. She tells him that no one can live up to his standards. He tells her that she looks at him like he wishes he was someone else. He tells her that she was the one who fell in love with Lex and that killer and he didn’t think he was the one she had the problem seeing. I thought he was a little hard on Lana and he needs to stop holding the Lex thing over her head. And Lana needs to realize that she is not this horrible person that she thinks she is.
Lana goes to Lionel and tells him that she is going to be honest with Clark from now on and that he needs to be careful. That he doesn’t know his son as well as he thought he did. Lionel wants to know where this was coming from and what was she after. She said nothing that she was here because she wanted to be the one Clark wanted to be in love with. Lana is taking steps to be the person that she knew she could be and has always been.
Later in the episode, Lana is at the farm packing so she can stay with Chloe for a little while. As she is going out the door, Clark stops her by telling her he’d stole a car, robbed several banks, and she stopped. She smiled and started walking towards him. He told her he knew he was hard to live with and his duel life and she tells him that she had been a hydra lately herself. Lana said that she was still committed to their relationship and Clark tells her that she doesn’t think that he still is. Lana says that she thinks that he feels that she might not be the one anymore. Clark tells her that he didn’t know their future but that he didn’t want to give up on them. And then there was a smile. AH!!
Okay. Question: how come Lionel was the only one to mention Grant being dead? How did Lois get over him so easy? It was like they wrote him off altogether. I would have thought there would have been more said about it. I think Lionel is barking up a tree that is going to get him in big trouble. If Lex didn’t think twice about killing someone who was supposed to be his brother, what makes Lionel think he won’t do the same thing to him?
Also, Lois. Folks how is Lois going to be Superman’s wife in the future if she is so selfish now? She didn’t want to share her life Ollie and the world, how can she do so in the future? Call it one of the many holes still in Smallville where things just don’t make much sense.
There were some folks on the boards that thought this was not going to be a good episode but I rather liked it. Even from the Clana stand point it was good. The entrance of the Black Canary to the Smallville family was a great choice. And having Ollie back was such a plus. It is always good to see Justin Hartley shirtless. But I would have rather seen Tom shirtless but oh well. I thought they all did a great job and I’m just glad that we have fresh new Smallville again on Thursday nights.
