‘Bizarro’ Review: Fighting the Mirror
What can be said about the Season 7 premiere entitled ‘Bizarro’? Except maybe wow! Or cool! Or maybe into awesome! That would be some of the things you’d say about a battle of 2 Clark’s. You have two super power beings beating the snot out of each other. More than that you have two Tom Welling’s on the screen at the same time!
There was so much going on in this episode that it is hard to say what could have been the best part. Was it Kara floating around like an angel in the water? Or when she flew off the top of the water tower next to the Talon dressed in her red and blue? Maybe it was when Chloe woke up and realized she was in the drawer down in the morgue and Clark had to get her out? Could it be when Lex turned himself in for the death of Lana? Or was it anytime that Clark was on the screen? Like I said there was a lot going on.
Not a lot was said about Kara as I am sure that is coming in the episodes to follow. The Martian Manhunter had a big part tonight. He helped Clark to see that maybe what he needed to beat Bizarro Clark was something he had everyday. Since he has all of Clark’s strengths and none of his weaknesses, what could be done to stop him? How about the yellow sun? Whenever Bizarro was out in the light he would look all gray and chiseled. So, when he takes Lex to the dam to get the Kryptonite, Clark exposes him to the sun and sends him out into space where the Manhunter takes him far far away.
There were a few loop holes. Like why after Chloe died and was resurrected did they not come looking for her? They should have been running her down trying to figure out why she was back and what really happened. Chloe simply sets fire to when she is alone. And how explaining anything about Lionel? He just sort of gets drug off by someone and you don’t know who or where he goes. At first I thought it might have been Lana (I’ll get to that in a minute) but not after we see what happens to her. And did Lois have to be so short with Clark when he was about to tell her about Lana’s death? That was sort of unnecessary I thought. But then she redeems herself when she comes back and tells him never to grab her rear again. Bizarro Clark had but there was no sense in explaining that to her.
I also rather liked how Chloe refuses to say very much about what really happened with her and Lois at the dam. You’d have thought she’d have told more about it to Clark since he also has super powers. But for right now, Chloe only wants to keep it to herself. From what I can gather, she may not even tell Jimmy when he comes back and I think that this will spell nothing but trouble for the love birds. It never helped Clark.
Now to Lana. For those who did not know, she is very much alive and in Shanghais. She had on a blond wig and a very tight red dress. It looked like she was living in some dump. I thought it was very cool how they had her looking at the moon and then Clark looking at the same moon and Kara doing the same. Also the way he decides that he wants to be is someone who looks out for humans and how Manhunter told him Jor-el would have been proud of him for his bravery. I was oh so excited that she is not dead and as for the clone theory that has been going around the web: the clone is probably the one who was in the car. The one off in the wig is the real thing!
I thought that both Tom and Michael did an amazing job with their emotions. Lex was visibly shaken about his wife’s death and Clark is inconsolable when it comes to losing Lana. She was what made him feel most human and now that she was gone, so was the hope that he would one day feel completely like one. He is lost now and doesn’t now how to feel.
This season is going to be a ride. A thrill ride with twist and turns, dips and amazing stunts and revelation to send chills down your spine and make you think. Kara is coming, Lara is coming, Brainiac is coming back, Lana is moving in with Clark at the farm, Dean Cain is playing a bad guy, Lex goes good, and Lana gets Clark’s powers. All these things coming to pass. But you have to watch and pay close attention. Smallville season 7 is going to be a big year and you don’t want to miss a thing!
